Six Strategies for Transforming Life in Haiti.
Clean Challenge is working with local Haitian leaders and partners on six strategies that, collectively, will work to transform Haiti's ecosystem. Our first priority has been to acquire land and to build a lined landfill so that trash has a safe place to go and where it can be fully maintained. One trash has a safe place to go, the common practice of trash burning will subside, leading to improved air quality for all.
We have acquired land, and final engineering is in process. The landfill will be surrounded with vetiver grass, which provides a powerful and natural filtration system for waste water to ensure that it is environmentally safe. Our next priority is to build a transport facility, where waste can be taken and separated into organic and non-organic material. Organic matter will be composted and sold to local farmers and growers to enrich their soil and enhance soil production. Non-organic matter will be buried in the landfill. We are seeking partners to build recycling capability.
We know that these are big goals, but they are also reasonable and attainable. We welcome interest from strategic partners and supporters who wish to join us our mission. Are you up for the challenge?
